The weekend decision

Every Sunday night a junior tennis family makes the same call with no help at all: enter this weekend, enter a different one, or sit it out. Inside Pathway, your child’s Plan lays out the coming weekends from their own record. This page has no child of yours to show, and we would rather say so than fill it with a made-up player.

The four questions it will answer

In this order, because the order is the argument: eligibility narrows the field before value is worth computing, and value is meaningless until you know what it is being measured against.

  1. 01
Which events this weekend are even open to my player?
Age division and eligibility first, then entry deadlines and how far you are willing to drive. Most weekends the honest list is shorter than the calendar suggests.
  2. 02
What is each one actually worth to us?
Not the headline point value — the value NET OF THE SIXTH-BEST RESULT already on the ledger. Only six singles results and six doubles results count [R, rule 1], so an event that would finish seventh adds nothing at all, however well it goes.
  3. 03
What happens if we skip it?
Results roll off after twelve months [R, rule 2], so a quiet weekend is not neutral — it is a decision with a dated consequence. Skipping is a valid answer, and the screen will say so out loud rather than always pointing at an entry.
  4. 04
Are we chasing points, or chasing matches?
Two different weekends look right depending on which. A player who needs sets played to firm up a rating wants the draw they will survive; a player chasing a standing wants the draw that pays. The screen will let you say which, rather than assuming.

Where this actually stands

The point tables, the best-six arithmetic, the rolling window and the selection rules are built and tested against the published USTA Junior regulations — that is the part that has to be exactly right, and it is the part we started with. Inside Pathway, your child’s Plan lays out the coming weekends with every open tournament in reach, nearest first, because only you know which weekends your family is free.

How points work explains the arithmetic the Plan runs on, and why doubles is worth playing walks through the one lever most families leave untouched.
